Rudolph Hirsch Turner Halston Ford House 10"x8"; Frank Lloyd Wright Burnham Block postcard, parchment paoer, hunting and fishing magazines; 2026 Type: Collage This collage began as an intuitive response to an image of the Hirsch House, designed by Paul Rudolph. I was drawn to the building’s geometric forms and to the dramatic way light was captured across its interior spaces. Only after completing the work did I learn more about the house’s queer history: it was commissioned by Alexander Hirsch and his partner, Luis Turner, and later inhabited by the influential fashion designers Halston and Tom Ford. Without knowing this history, I had created a work connected to a remarkable network of queer architecture, artistry, and homeownership. The collage memorializes that connection through layered paper, architectural fragments, and shifting planes of color. It also marks the beginning of my broader inquiry into architecture and collage and raises the possibility of returning to the Hirsch House with deeper attention to the lives and creative practices held within it.
