Sunburned & Soon Kissed Beach Party
Frederick Avenue Gallery's F.A.G Summer

Part of F.A.G. Summer 2025, Sunburned & Soon Kissed transformed the north end of Bradford Beach into a temporary queer commons, an afternoon of swimming, flirting, posing, and unapologetic visibility. For one sun-soaked day, we created our own version of Chicago’s famed gay shoreline, Hollywood Beach, right here in Milwaukee. Guests arrived in skimpy swimwear, minimal coverage and maximum confidence, ready to claim the sand with joy. The twinks showed up. The bears showed up. Everyone in between showed up.
 

Free and open to the public, the gathering welcomed all bodies, all genders, and all expressions. DJ sets carried across the lakefront while friends stretched out in the sun, waded into the water for impromptu photo shoots, and passed around bubble wands like soft declarations of delight. Pickle beer cracked open in coolers. Sandcastle builders plotted their gayest architectural fantasies in the sand.
 

Then came the spectacle. A local heartthrob crushed a watermelon with their thighs, turning absurd strength into communal theater as laughter rippled across the shoreline.

As with all F.A.G. Summer programming, the ethos remained clear: No Mean Gays Allowed. Public space is political, and pleasure is protest. All are welcome.
